About August
I think August is my favorite month of the year and its not just because Taylor wrote a song about it. There is something about the decline of summer and how she reveals how her glory in this month. Of course, summer doesn't actually end until September, but it feels like the end here anyway. Maybe it's because my friends are going back to school. Personally, I wish summer would go on forever. But then, perhaps summer wouldn't be so sacred feeling to me if it didn't have an end.
"Nothing gold can stay." Didn't Indy Blue say that?
Anyway, I'm writing this blog post on an August afternoon in the air conditioning because it is 92 degrees outside. I'm going camping in a couple days. We're going to sleep on a cliff overlooking a gorge and swim and go cliff jumping (into water, not a gorge.) It will be hot and sunny and the last horrah of summer for us. More on all of that when I get back. Since I'll be gone on the last few days of August, I wanted to make this post now.
Today I've gathered some song lyrics about August or that remind me of August. I've gathered some collage art I've done in honor of the month and the poems I've written. August, in my opinion, should be notorious for some of the best sunsets of the year. Some of them are below.
Thank you for reading. I hope this last week of August is sweet for you. Soak it in. Summer deserves to be celebrated.
Below are two collages I made in my art journal inspired by August from Folklore by Taylor Swift.
There's something about the lyrics to "Big Star" by Lorde that make me think of August.
Next are some collages I've made with lines from my poems about August.
And the pages from my poetry books where you can find these three poems:
Here are those sunsets I promised and a couple other pictures.
